What is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dental specialist with two to three years of additional training after dental school. Their advanced training and experience allow them to safely straighten teeth, correct misaligned jaw structure and improve the function of your smile.
Dr. Rea is a board-certified orthodontist. Which means in addition to her training, she has also completed advanced written and clinical board examinations.
Why is Orthodontic Treatment Important?
The goal of orthodontic treatment is to properly align the teeth and jaws into a healthy and stable relationship. This leads to a lifetime of better overall oral health and function when it comes to things like biting, chewing, or even speaking. It also gives us a beautiful smile!
When should I bring my child to the orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a child first see an orthodontist at the age of 7. This allows us to assess how their adult teeth are growing in and to evaluate their growth patterns. In some cases, early treatment is recommended to help alleviate crowding, prevent impacted teeth or to correct aberrant growth patterns.
Can adults have orthodontic treatment?
Yes!! Orthodontists are trained to treat patients of all ages!
What does orthodontic treatment entail?
We offer traditional braces with either metal or ceramic brackets. We also offer Invisalign® treatment. Treatment time varies depending on the person and the extent of misalignment. An estimate of treatment duration will be given during your complimentary consultation.
Do I need a referral?
No. Our office provides complimentary consultations, no referral required. If treatment is recommended, a cleaning and exam by a licensed dentist is required prior to starting.
What is the difference between mail-in orthodontics and in-office orthodontics?
With mail-in orthodontics, there is no dental professional overseeing your care. This can lead to detrimental results and compromised dental health.
In-office orthodontic treatment overseen by a specialty trained orthodontist is the safest way to a healthy, beautiful smile.
Remember – orthodontic treatment is not a product or a device. Orthodontics is a professional medical service.
